WOMEN’S SOCCER AT THE OLYMPICS

Some extraordinary things!

I normally do not watch soccer.

Nil freaking NIL?

(The most common score.)

What the hell?

Why did we watch?

Why did they play?

And the acting!

• The falling at the slightest provocation. Or no provocation, just opportunism.

• The ripping of hair.

• The writhing on the ground

• The grabbing the face in agony.

• The holding of the ankles and knees.

• The desperation on the players’ faces.

• The pleading for ‘justice’ to the referees. (I especially love it when the hit is at shoulder level.)

• The penalties for inadvertent trips.

(The inability with video to TELL that an incident was inadvertent!)

• And the predictably horrified reactions from both sides.

And still, nil-nil?

Which means “nothing- nothing,” but why not say that?
