(The Wheel of Time is an epic high-fantasy TV series based on author Robert Jordan's novels of the same name. He says the TV series is not exactly the same as his many books.)

HERE'S THE THING

When writers or movie makers create a world, they can do whatever they want as long as they stay within the reasonable bounds of their creation or bounds within which they'd would have to obey using common sense in our world.

OR, they have to suggest or explain the weirdness within their creation, so we don't constantly say," You can't DO that! It doesn't make sense."

Otherwise, they break the more significant rule.

Readers or viewers must play your game by your rules to buy into your premise, play along, and enjoy the work in question. True.

BUT…

WE NEED TO EMPLOY

"The willing suspension of disbelief."

We'll buy your premise (whatever it is) until and unless you break your own rules because

  • You think the audience will not be paying attention
  • or you think they are too stupid.
  • you thought you could get away with it
  • you forgot about that rule
